History

Robert Broom Medical Centre was founded in 2005 when Dr’s Anne-Marié Nel and Anita Pittendrigh merged their practices. They acquired the new premises in 2006. In 2010 Dr Annemie Koekemoer joined the practice, bringing with her some millennial energy and new expertise. When Dr Anita Ras née Pittendrigh relocated to Christiana in 2010 it was time for a new chapter and Dr Jano de Beer stepped in to accept the challenge. Dr Nel and Dr De Beer has been partners since 2013 and under their leadership the practice has grown to new heights. Dr Desiree Latsky is the youngest member of the team and has been with us since 2015. Dr Sharron Joubert is a permanent locum doctor since 2006, consulting on Wednesday afternoons and standing in if any of the other doctors are on leave. Between our five doctors they share more than 60 years of experience as general practitioners. We are proud to be an independent practice and that our doctors play an active part in the community. We aim to serve the interests of our patients and Krugersdorp to the best of our ability.

She is married and a mother of two teenagers. “To be a general practitioner is a calling, not a job. I have been so privileged to be a part of so many families’ lives – their joys, their challenges and their sorrows.” Although she is actively involved in the everyday medical practice, her special interest and passion is helping children to realize and fulfill their full potential. Her field of experience and expertise includes attention deficit and hyperactivity disorders, autism, learning disorders and emotional childhood disorders. She also consults adults with ADD/ADHD. “I am blessed to work with some of the best therapists and educators, but my “children” are the stars – overcoming so many obstacles. There is nothing more rewarding than to see them believe in themselves.”
